HEALTHCARE 2020: Commemorating Singapore's 50th Healthcare Anniversary Competition

PEACE BE UNTO ALL.....SELAMAT HARI RAYA HAJI to all our Muslim friends and happy holidays to all our other fellow brothers and sisters.

Hope you are all in the best of health.

Our FILM-MEDIA-UNIT put together a quick job amidst a very tight deadline for a
Healthcare Competition to commemorate Singapore's 50th Annivesary in healthcare
.....(For details about the competition, click on the link:http://www.healthcare50.sg/healthcare-video-competition/)

Kenneth, Hafiz, Lian Kai and Amirul went through quite a gruelling and tight production schedule to achieve the production of this 3-minute clip during the week leading to Hari Raya Haji.

The effort to produce this was quite punishing as we had to work on a very tight schedule, unpredictable turn of events.

One of the defining moments of this production was the opportunity to meet and interview Salma Khalik (a senior medical journalist with the Straits Times, who has 10 years of medical journalism experience and total of 20 years of journalistic experience).

Her experience and professionalism really showed itself in moments where we got "OWNED"; for instance we were reminded that our camera angles were wrong and at times; interjected by her that our questions for the interview were irrelevant........Yet we were not easily dominated or chickened out by her seniority....There was an instance where, she questioned me (Mr. Mohamad) as to why i was conducting the interview and not the students....i replied somewhat sheepishly, "errr, if you want the students to do the questioning......then i'm afraid, you'll need to give us more than 30 minutes to carry out this interview...".

It did occur to her, we had a point and she nodded in submission :)

The experience nevertheless left me quite impressed with Ms Salma...she was really time-conscious, no-nonsense, highly professional and yet had accomodated to our request to meet her despite her really busy schedule. It has been a while that i met someone who i have to say was sure-minded and quick-witted.....this lady certainly fitted the "tough lady" bill. That was not all...usually for filmings and shoots, the director would be the one who would call the shots and say "CUT!"....Damn, this lady, ever-aware that time is not on her side and vigilant that i was asking too much of what she thought was necessary...spontaneously announced before i could finnish asking two-more questions; in a commanding way...."Guys, we have to wrap up....". We nevertheless did not wrap-up as we somehow persuaded her gently back and said, " I have two last questions...". I believe the words, "two last".....saved the day......from being OWNED the second time around....Not enough, as Lian Kai and Amirul were packing up their cameras and equipments, she marched towards the glass door and opened it; subtly giving us the sign that "time's up!".....PHEWWWHHH.......Have to say, i was stressed and pressurised talking to her.

Yeah, but in all, i was quite in AWE of this lady. Her OWNAGE simply speaks about her capability and high-level of professionalism...she was time-conscious and knew that every minute was precious and that she should not waste it on directionless and unproductive moments....Have to say, she gained my respect there and it gave me even greater endeavour to pick-up such professionalism which she espoused in the 30 plus minutes we interviewed her. May God bless you Ms Salma :)

If you wish to know more......best to ask the folks who worked on the project....But all praise to God and the hardworking crew, the project went through till its end stages.

I really wish to thank my tight-filming "squad" for pushing this project from start to end despite hiccups, breakdowns and technical failures at the start....I don't like to overstate things...and best that the final WORK and ACTION speaks for ITSELF! Everything you see was self-produced: the videos and the even the music scoring....

Most of all, it cannot be achieved without God's mercy and compassion to let this happen. All praise to God, the almighty :)

Do view this piece of work..and i do share Kenneth's thoughts about what he said after we rushed the project to completion last Saturday at 6pm in the school's Blue Studio....."we are really not there yet....".....indeed, so far from "being there"........we gotta keep pushing...the BEST is always yet to BE!

Much love,
